Dr Miguel Toribio-Mateas

Dr Miguel Toribio-Mateas is a clinical neuroscientist, applied microbiologist and nutrition researcher in the UK. His expertise in the intricate connection between the gut and the brain draws on a rich, real-world scientific foundation, having led and collaborated in several clinical studies in this field.

Dr Miguel’s extensive academic background includes postgraduate degrees in Nutritional Medicine and Clinical Neuroscience, and a Doctorate focused on the Gut Microbiome and Mental Health. His doctoral training coincided with a five-year Research Innovation Fellowship funded by the European Regional Development Fund, where he explored the effects of nutrition on gut health and its links with mood, cognition, and mental wellbeing.

Additionally, Dr. Miguel is part of a multi-disciplinary research team investigating the role of the gut microbiome on the severity of ADHD symptoms, whose work has been published in the British Medical Journal. Today, he continues his work as an Honorary Research Fellow at Cardiff University's School of Psychology, focusing on the interconnections between food choices and emotional and physical wellbeing.

He is also the author of a forthcoming book on the neuroscience of ADHD set to be published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers in late 2025.

Dr. Miguel holds Chartered Biologist status by the Royal Society of Biology (CBiol), is a Fellow of the Society of Applied Microbiology (AIM), and is a member of the Microbiology Society.
